Ogallala aquifer report
In Agriculture class my learning objectives are to learn more about nature and how it all works. This recent project I worked on called the “Ogallala Aquifer” I learned more about a water source that is very important to us and mainly for agriculture. This was all new to me since i have never heard or seen the ogallala before. It was somewhat interesting to me to learn more about this because I knew about some things that tie up to this topic and it made me have a better understanding about this topic. It is so incredible to know how massive this water source is and for how many years it has been here, helping us with our daily lives. However, I believe we have abused its usage and have overused it for many benefits and has obviously been draining out more and more.
The Ogallala Report, which was my assignment, was about the ogallala aquifer that takes up 7 states of space, and that is located in the mid south of the US. It is about 3 trillion gallons big, but has shrunken down a lot quite much over the past years due to its usage. I was required to answer 4 questions that were on a paper the teacher gave us and I had to briefly explain the causes and effects, what industries use the ogallala, and clearly explain what the ogallala is and what it is used for.
This research was very helpful for me because I actually spent my time doing research on a topic that I didn't know much about and ended up learning a lot from it. This is looking really good on my growth and on my skills because I am learning new things and I also I can see the issues that this is causing and I also get to hear from both sides of peoples opinions on this matter and see everyone's perspective on the ogallala. I used to actually find these topics not very interesting but after reading more about it and learning the causes and effects of this specific topic, I see things differently now and realize that this is very important.
From my own research I knew the basics of this topic and after reading everyone elses I learned more about it. I have always know that water is the basic definition of our lives and of life in planet earth, we all need it, without it we are nothing, and I also know that we've been through severe drought the past years, but never knew we had this incredible resource of water. I personally believe that people abuse of its use just like everything else that goes around and people then realize they “need it” but I believe it's best to care for it in a friendly manner and only make use of it for necessary reasons that won't badly impact the environment.
In conclusion, the ogallala aquifer is very important and we should all take care of it because it has helped for over decades and many years and if it woe to ever go away it would take hundreds or even thousands of year to get it back again and we never know what would happen then. The amount of this aquifer is immensely big and it os a very powerful source especially for farming, which we really need to grow food.
